If you have just received a DUI, an SR-22 requirement or a cancelled policy, you need clear answers fast. Most of what you find online is either buried in legal language or written to sell you a quote.
High Risk Auto Guide is an independent publication about one narrow subject: car insurance for high-risk drivers in the United States. That covers SR-22 and FR-44 filings, coverage after a DUI, lapsed insurance, at-fault accidents, multiple tickets and non-owner policies.
Why we started this site
This project began close to home. Relatives of ours who live in the United States had to deal with car insurance requirements and struggled to find one place that explained things clearly. The reason is simple: the rules change from state to state, and most sources either cover only one state or are written to sell a quote.
We have followed the topic since then, reading state requirements and comparing how things work in practice. High Risk Auto Guide collects that information in one place and keeps it up to date.
Who is behind this site
We are a small editorial team with a background in digital publishing and online research. We are not an insurance company, agency or broker, and we are not licensed to sell insurance or give legal advice.
How we write our guides
- We start with official sources. State DMV and DPS pages, statutes and published requirements come first. We name our sources in each guide.
- We show disagreement between sources. When two sources give different figures, we show both and say where each comes from, instead of averaging them.
- We date our work. Each guide shows when it was last updated, because fees, minimum coverage and filing periods change.
- We correct mistakes. If you find outdated or incorrect information, write to us and we will review it and fix it.
What this site is not
Nothing here is legal, financial or insurance advice. We don’t promise savings or recommend a specific insurer. Your price depends on your state, your record and the company you apply with. For decisions about your license or your policy, confirm the requirements with your state agency or a licensed agent.
